Established
in 1999, Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited,
the wholly-subsidiary of City Telecom (H.K.) Limited,
targets to develop own network infrastructure to offer
various fixed telecom network services.
Over the
years, HKBN has invested over HK$1.2 billion in constructing
its own network. Utilizing optical fibre and CAT-5E
high grade cables, this advanced network caters for
"triple-play" applications - conglomerating
broadband Internet access, local telephony and fully-digitalized
pay-TV services in a single network.
In June
2002, Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited was announced
by Cisco Systems that it has successfully established
the largest Metro Ethernet network in the world. This
IP network covers 1.2 million households in Hong Kong,
representing 60% of the aggregate. Residents and occupants
of 3,500 residential and 500 commercial buildings
are opened for our quality, but competitively priced
services.
In 2002,
HKBN was selected by the Hong Kong General Chamber
of Commerce for the award of "HKGCC Innovative
Service Award". Comments from the judging panel
confirmed that our innovation on technological advanced
brought by diversified range of products and services
benefits clients and helps to enhance the overall
image of Hong Kong as a telecommunications center.
Currently,
HKBN provides 10Mbps bi-directional transmission broadband
Internet access, local telephony and fully digitalized
pay-TV services. For details, please visit www.hkbn.net.
